- Phobia / Panic Disorder / Anxiety Disorder
is the brand name of the drug Olanzapine.
Olanzapine is an antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa belongs
to a large category of medications that affect the mind, called
psychotropics. Antipsychotic medicines are psychotropic medications
that treat the symptoms of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.
Zyprexa is a newer kind of antipsychotic medication known
as an atypical antipsychotic.
Zyprexa is believed to work by balancing the chemicals naturally
found in the brain. Zyprexa may help relieve your symptoms
so you feel better. As your symptoms improve, you will be
better able to start getting your life back on track.
What happens if I miss
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if
it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip
the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not
take a double dose of this medication.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Symptoms of an olanzapine overdose include drowsiness and slurred speech.
Possible side effects of Zyprexa
Stop taking olanzapine and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) to olanzapine.
Contact your doctor immediately or seek medical attention if you experience uncontrollable movements of the mouth, tongue, cheeks, jaw, arms, or legs.
Contact your doctor immediately or seek medical attention if you experience fever, sweating, severe muscle stiffness (rigidity), confusion, fast or irregular heart beats. These could be symptoms of a potentially fatal side effect called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS).
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take olanzapine and talk to your doctor if you experience
- dizziness or drowsiness,
- an increased heart rate,
- dry mouth,
- weight gain, or
- increased blood sugar (may be detected by blood tests or cause symptoms such as increased thirst and urination).
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Phobias and fears are common - over 10% of people experience
a simple phobia at some time. From elevators, spiders and
birds, to heights, dentists and open spaces, there is nothing
we can't develop anxiety or phobias about. Happily, hypnosis
provides an extremely effective cure for these problems as
it provides the opposite of anxiety - deep relaxation - while
teaching the mind a different way of responding to the feared
object or situation...
